A Journey Without a Straight Line

Bevan’s path to the UK did not begin with certainty. His first stint after university was defined by survival rather than strategy. “I first went to the UK after university and did odd jobs trying to survive – bar work, packing boxes, and recruitment telesales – but soon came running home,” he recalls.

What followed was a career without borders. Using the UK as a base rather than a destination, Bevan worked across the globe through PwC and later as an independent consultant. The idea of relocating permanently never fully settled – until circumstances changed.

During COVID, a Newcastle-based company reached out after losing its consultant. They needed urgent help designing a product. The arrangement was pragmatic: expertise in exchange for access. But it became something more. “After a year, I had 20 clients with annuity and long-term projects,” Bevan explains. “So I decided to start up in the UK and build a second company.”

There was no dramatic pivot. Just momentum earned the hard way.

What distinguishes Infosec’s growth story is not scale for scale’s sake, but intention. Bevan is clear about priorities. “Our plans are to retain our wonderful clients and keep growing, gaining clients across the world,” he says.

That growth is not framed as conquest, but collaboration. There is a deliberate call to the South African diaspora embedded in Infosec’s outlook – not as sentimentality, but as network strength. “Call out to fellow Saffers whose companies need help with cyber security or know of people who need help with compliance or managing their cyber security and privacy programmes,” Bevan notes.

It reflects something recognisably South African: build properly, help where you can, and don’t forget who helped you get there. Lekker, but serious.

The Diaspora Advantage

Infosec’s structure – with teams across the UK and South Africa – is not incidental. It reflects Bevan’s belief that global reach and human connection are not mutually exclusive. His approach to supporting fellow South Africans abroad is rooted in access and presence rather than slogans.

“Harnessing my large network to help others around the world looking for help either on specifics or in business challenges,” he explains. “Being an ear, giving support, and introducing Saffers in the UK to others.”

In practice, that means knowledge sharing, introductions, and hard-earned perspectives passed on before mistakes are repeated. It is mentorship without ceremony – the kind that happens over calls, coffees, and quick messages that quietly change trajectories.

Winning the Away Game, the Infosec Way
