The Tenth Province

Leaving home never felt like a clean break; something always stayed behind. South Africa shaped how I see the world, and stepping away carried more than distance, with questions following close behind. Over a few intense years, life stretched across South Africa, Mauritius, and now the United States. Each move opened doors while quietly testing what I was prepared to give up.

With distance, perspective begins to sharpen. Familiar rhythms fall away, replaced by uncertainty and the need to rebuild from scratch. Through that process, identity sharpens, and what remains constant begins to matter more than what changes. Home has remained the constant throughout.

Scaling with Purpose

At a certain point, ambition meets its limits. In the United States, those limits shift. Markets move

faster, with capital flowing more freely. Opportunity expands in ways that force you to think bigger. That realization didn’t diminish South Africa’s potential. If anything, it reinforced it. Impact back home carries weight, but scale abroad creates leverage.

That balance now shapes how I make decisions. Building in one environment while staying deeply connected to another allows both to benefit. Growth becomes more than personal. It becomes something that can be shared.

The Power of Connection

Time abroad raises a deeper question. How do South Africans stay connected, no matter where they land? Out of that question, The Lekker Network began to take shape. A simple idea sits at its core: show up for each other, consistently and with intention.

Nelson Mandela once described the global South African community as a “Tenth Province.” That idea carries weight. It speaks to identity without borders, to a shared connection that extends far beyond geography. The Lekker Network exists to bring that province together and reconnect it with the nine at home.

Turning Access into Action

When connection becomes practical, opportunity starts to grow. Conversations turn into introductions, and introductions begin to open real opportunities. That shift matters because it moves things forward.

South Africans abroad often gain access to capital, markets, and global networks. Those at home bring resilience, talent, and execution. When those strengths meet, momentum builds quickly.
