Some things just stay with you.

For me, it was the feeling I got when I first started building my previous business, Veldskoen. In just a few short years, we were shipping to 33 countries. And in each one, without fail, I’d meet a South African doing something amazing. In London, New York, Amsterdam, Sydney – it didn’t matter where I went. There they were. Talented, driven, humble, hardworking. Doing it for themselves and flying the flag for all of us.

That’s when it hit me: our country’s greatest asset isn’t gold, or wine, or Table Mountain. It’s our people.

South Africans Are Everywhere – And That’s a Gift

The South African diaspora is bigger than we realise – and more powerful than we think. But it’s also fragmented. We’re scattered across the globe, doing incredible things in silos. I kept thinking: what if we could bring it all together?

What if we could connect these people – these expats, these entrepreneurs, these leaders – so they could help each other, hire each other, learn from one another, and build something that gives back?

That’s where the idea for The Lekker Network came from.

From One Idea to a Global Movement

It started as a few posts on LinkedIn. That turned into conversations. Then those conversations turned into action. Within months, we were onboarding members, hosting events, and creating real opportunities. Today, The Lekker Network has grown into the biggest professional network of South Africans – both in South Africa and abroad – and we’ve only just got going.

We’re connecting people across industries, continents, and generations. We’re unlocking opportunity, sharing knowledge, opening doors, and building businesses together.

But most importantly, we’re building a sense of belonging.

Why It Matters

South Africans are wired a little differently. We’re resilient. We’re resourceful. We know how to make a plan. But when we come together – when we connect and collaborate – that’s when the real magic happens.

The Lekker Network isn’t just about business. It’s about community. It’s about realising that we’re stronger together. And that the best way to create change – at home and abroad – is to show up for each other.

That’s the mission. And we’re only just getting started.
